Abstract
Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) proposes to develop novel polymer binder systems that will combine high energy density, on-demand curing, and compatibility with ammonium dinitramide oxidizer while retaining critical material properties of conventional energetic materials. The approach capitalizes on structural features of conventional polymer systems to provide tailored curing conditions, backbone moieties for good mechanical properties, and enhanced energy density for improved ballistic performance. The binder systems will be applicable to both additive and conventional manufacturing processes. In Phase I, the proposed investigation will focus on the development and demonstration of a scalable polymer process including evaluation of its ballistic properties in targeted energetic formulations.
