Numerica proposes to develop and demonstrate a suite of innovative and technically-sound tools that exploit stereoscopically-collected observations from multiple ground-based optical (GBO) sensors to provide more timely and actionable information regarding newly-discovered and recently-maneuvered objects. The envisioned Ground-Based Optical Tracking in Stereo (GBOTS) software suite and its concept of employment would improve data associations in cluttered environments and use photometry whenever possible to shorten timelines and improve accuracy in key space situational awareness (SSA) functions including initial orbit determination, closely-spaced object and uncorrelated track processing, change detection, and object characterization. The proposed stereoscopic viewing algorithms will leverage high-TRL software components from Numerica's SSA software stack, and they will be matured and demonstrated using both simulated data and real data from Numerica's global telescope network having continuous stereoscopic coverage of over 90% of the GEO belt. The latter will serve as a secondary commercialization path, with the primary transition path being integration of the software with GBO systems used by the Space Surveillance Network (SSN). Numerica has assembled an experienced team with significant domain expertise in SSA, astrodynamics, software development, and GBO data processing, and the company has a strong track record of commercializing SBIR-funded technology in the SSA domain.
