Abstract
Satellite-based navigation signals (e.g., GPS) are weak signals, and therefore any obstruction (intentional or unintentional) can cause partial or complete blockage of the GPS signal. This has caused GPS-based positioning systems to fail or have poor performance in: a) Indoor; b) urban; and c) underground locations.On the other hand, the commercial world has seen the growth of several communication technologies that can inherently provide relative positioning using inter-node ranging or triangulation. Using these technologies, In this project IAI is developing a Referential Position Aid for Tactical radios (REPAT) that will provide positioning accuracy of 10 cm, on the three axis, throughout a network without using GPS. REPAT is a low SWAP-C relative positioning device that will interface with a smart phone, a tablet or an ATAK module.
