Abstract
For predicting galvanic corrosion finite element analysis (FEA) is a good approach, but far too slow and complex for widespread use. Corrdesa proposes to build on the experience and software that we have developed, to create a modern trade tool based correctly on galvanic corrosion current, not galvanic potential tables.Corrdesa is at the forefront of galvanic corrosion modeling, and has developed Corrosion Djinn, a modern, easy-to-use engineering tool and its consistent electrochemical database for calculating galvanic and self-corrosion rates. For analyzing complex or critical assemblies we have developed a Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) methodology, that includes the fluid dynamics of the electrolyte layer, which affects corrosion rates by an order of magnitude. The tool we propose will utilize a modified version of Corrosion Djinn for rapidly determining corrosion rates of interfaces throughout the aircraft, taking into account materials, coatings and finishes, as well as environment and the geography of the components within the air vehicle. For complex assemblies, we will provide a capability to allow non-experts to use the complex COTS CAE software, by utilizing built-in Simulation Assistants.This approach will be demonstrated in Phase I, using both Corrosion Djinn and CAE to analyze a galvanic test assembly.
