Abstract
This proposal is to develop and implement a cryogenic optical data link into an infrared camera that includes a focal plane array. The cryogenic optical data link uses a specially designed laser that can achieve very low bit energy and very low optical loss in cryogenic environments. The laser is a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) that is designed to reach high reliability and high efficiency when optimized for 77 K operation. The optical data link will be integrated into a focal plane array test camera system for test and evaluation of the data link.
