For this SBIR Intelligent Automation Inc. (IAI), teamed with researchers from Department of Dermatology, University of Maryland School of Medicine, propose to develop a smartphone based dermatology diagnosis system, MDerm that can be operated by warriors in battlefield to diagnose the infected skin lesion with a snapshot. In Phase I we will demonstrate the technical feasibility in a programmable mobile device (e.g. a smartphone) and software developed for skin lesion area detection, classification and diagnosis, and a configuration and visualization interface to aid personnel deployed in foreign countries.Our first innovation comes from the deep low-shot classification to tackle the large number of skin lesion type problem with a few training samples.For standalone solution we will customize more efficient deep learning neural networks to facilitate computation.We will apply augmented reality (AR) technology to provide an enhanced visualization, so warriors can not only read the textual descriptions, which is often long and tedious, but also visualize the skin lesion in intricate details to learn more about its every part.
