Research Institution
A portable point of care device is proposed with features to enable rapid, automated, vascular access with single-stick accuracy by a medic with limited experience.A user-friendly GUI guides the medic in the devices use. Novel proprietary algorithms are employed to recognize key anatomical features and to determine an optimal vascular access site even with poor quality images.A miniature camera-based mapping system is used to guide the end-user to the optimal access site at which point the device is temporarily fixed by the medic to the site to reduce motion artifacts and ensure the access location is maintained. The probe can be rotated to enable visibility of the needle in context with the walls of vessel or oriented to enable complete visibility of the needle to control its trajectory, minimizing complications.
