Abstract
Under Phase I, a feasibility study will consider key system trades to meet the goals of the program. The goals include development of three innovative concepts for a new low profile night vision goggle (NVG) mounting solution with 2 or 3 positions, which are operationally suitable/applicable to the specified NVGs and ballistic helmets. These creative design concepts will reduce the systems profile, center of gravity and position the NVG to minimize neck torque in the stowed position. Additional design considerations includes power/data cables from battery pack, helmet conformity and integrity, weight, interoperability, standby operational capability and retrofit to existing NVGs with minor modifications.New high performance NVGs come with improved capability yet increases in size, weight, power consumption and complexity; thereby increasing NVG system profile and neck torque. These NVGs have been introduced mostly relying upon proven legacy mounting solutions. In some cases, new battery packs have been added to maintain system operational availability. Further references to Neck Torque study provide insights to ergonomic use. Modeling analysis of the NVG profile, center of gravity system weight resulting in neck torque will be determined in the study; these new mount designs will be compare and assessed versus traditional legacy mounting solutions.
