Abstract
The objective of this proposed research effort is to determine the feasibility of an offshore platform that can support a wind turbine and maintain station, without the use of mooring lines. This will be accomplished by conducting a study based on first principles and computational modeling under the umbrella of a disciplined systems engineering process. The project team will conclude by publishing a formal evaluation of the concept, in order to determine if large mobile offshore wind turbines can be used to support future DoD power generation needs.
