Abstract
Perceptronics and its team members, Litton Guidance & Control Systems and Infinity Multimedia, will demonstrate that the High Level Architecture (HLA) provides a viable approach for multi-participant entertainment applications and implement an HLA federation and a Federation Object Model (FOM) for this domain. A simple tennis-like game with both 2D and 3D visualization will be used as representative for the general application class. Its design demonstrates the need to address three key issues for the class of multi-participant entertainment applications: transfer of ownership, viewpoint sharing, and multiple level of detail viewing. Solutions for these issues will be developed within the HLA architecture using specific FOM classes, HLA Ownership Management, and HLA Data Distribution Management. The design of our federationwill support the emerging technology of autostereoscopic 3D-displays. Viewing is greatly enhanced by this technology. The impact on the device-independent abstractions used in the FOM for viewpoint sharing and multiple level of detail viewing will be a focus of our resarch.
