Research Institution
Fibertek Inc., is proposing to produce a high repetition rate fiber laser transmitter at 532nm to replace an existing low repetition rate laser source for MDA Ladar applications. This new transmitter increases the output power by a factor of twenty and increases the rate of pulse production one hundred times. In addition the transmitter architecture allows for sub-nanosecond pulses which are difficult to achieve with state of the art bulk solid-state laser technology. We propose here to design and engineer two units, an initial space qualification test unit and a flight unit, both compatible with the needs of next generation Space-Based Ladar Sensors. This allows MDA to demonstrate hardware on a path to meet future mission requirements in a realistic environment.
