Abstract
THE PROPOSED PROGRAM WILL APPLY THE WELL-DEVELOPED TECHNOLOGY OF ISAR (INVERSE SYNTHETIC APERTURE RADAR) IMAGING TO THE DETECTION, LOCATION AND EVALUATION OF VOIDS AND VOID AGGREGATES IN RESIN-MATRIX COMPOSITE STRUCTURES. IF GOOD CORRELATION IS OBTAINED BETWEEN THE ELECTROMAGNETIC SCATTERING OF VOID AGGREGATES AND THE DEGRADATION OF MECHANICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES, ISAR IMAGING WILL PROVIDE AN EXCELLENT, COST-EFFECTIVE INPROCESS INSPECTION TOOL, EITHER INDEPENDTLY OR IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER NDE TECHNIQUES.
