Abstract
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IS PROPOSED OF A NOVEL, SELF-CONTAINED, 200 TO 500 KW POWER GENERATOR FUELLED BY SAWMILL WASTE TO PRODUCE ELECTRICITY AND HEAT FOR MILL OPERATIONS AND LOCAL DISTRIBUTION. THE SYSTEM IS POWERED BY A FOUR-CYLINDER SIEMENS-STIRLING ENGINE WITH AN INNOVATIVE ARRANGEMENT OF A CRANKSHAFT AND SCOTCH-YOKE DRIVE MECHANISM PASSING THROUGH DOUBLE-ACTING PISTONS. THIS ACHIEVES A COMPACT, HIGH POWER DENSITY DESIGN WITH MINIMUM MOVING PARTS AND SAVINGS IN WEIGHT, COST, AND MAINTENANCE. THE ENGINE EMPLOYS AIR CHARGING AND FORCED-WATER LUBRICATION TO AVOID THE SAFETY, SEALING AND MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS INHERENT WITH THE USE OF HYDROGEN OR HELIUM WORKING FLUID AND OIL LUBRICATION. CLEAN, EFFICIENT COMBUSTION OF THE SAWMILL WASTE FUEL IS ASSURED BY AUTOMATIC CONTROL OF BURN RATE, AIR REGULATION, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY COMBUSTION SPACES, AN EXHAUST-GAS/INLET-AIR PREHEATER, AND FLUE GAS CLEAN-UP.
