Abstract
RADIO FREQUENCY VACUUM WINDOWS COOLED WITH LIQUID HELIUM WILL BE DEVELOPED IN THIS PROJECT. SINGLE CRYSTAL SAPPHIRE WILL BE USED FOR THE DIELECTRIC BARRIER MATERIAL. A COMPRESSIVE SEAL TECHNIQUE WILL BE USED TO FORM THE VACUUM JOINT BETWEEN THE SAPPHIRE AND CONDUCTORS THAT MAKE UP THE WINDOW ASSEMBLY. THIS TECHNIQUE HAS BEEN USED SUCCESSFULLY FOR ROOM TEMPERATURE VACUUM SEALS. IN PHASE I THE SEAL TECHNIQUE WILL BE TESTED AT CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURES TO PROVE THE FEASIBILITY OF THE CONCEPT. IN PHASE II A FULL-SCALE PROTOTYPE WILL BE FABRICATED AND TESTED AT HIGH POWER.
