Abstract

Development of a miniature mass spectrometer using a cylindrical ion trap mass analyzer will provide a portable instrument capable of detecting trace level components from gaseous samples. The miniature mass spectrometer developed here will be the only miniature instrument capable of multiple stages of mass analysis (MS/MS) thus coupling added selectivity to the very sensitive instrument. This instrument will have commercial application inairport security, online process monitoring, air quality in public spaces, and a variety of other applications requiring sensitive and selective determination of gaseous samples.
