AbstractThe proposed program will provide the preliminary design of a 10 kilowatt thermoelectric generator that can be used on the Army's Stryker and other similar vehicles. the proposed generator will directly convert energy in the exhaust of the Stryker's engine to electricity using advanced quantum well thermoelectric materials. It will also investigate the use of this generator as a separate APU by the addition of a logistic fuel burner and control system. The program will also investigate the applicability of this generator to other vehicles such as the FCS, Future Scout and LAV as well as the feasability of using a similar system on the exhaust of the Abrams Tank's gas turbine engine. The preliminary design of a quantum well based thermoelectric module for the 10 kW generator will be completed during Phase I. the eggcrate, element contacts, the necessary tooling, and film production for a prototype quantum well module for the 10 kW generator is proposed during the Phase I Option.
