Abstract

Very highly maneuverable remote controlled (RC) aircraft are flown indoors and can be made to hover; these craft can transition from horizontal flight to vertical flight without use of complex gear and do no have any component that serve a single flight phase only. For such RC craft to be made to fly autonomously using an on-board sensors and a computer, one must understand their dynamics. To scope the complexity of the control problem, a validated simulation tool will be produced in this work. It includes wind tunnel testing, especially at large angle of attacks and low speeds and flight tests to compare simulated and actual motion.
