Abstract

The proposed work will design, develop and demonstrate the feasibility of an innovative approach for an infrared polarization maintaining single mode fiber (PM-SMF) solution that operates simultaneously throughout the mid-wave infrared (MWIR) spectrum (2-6 micron). This novel PM fiber will be designed on Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) to offer endlessly single mode in the MWIR and large mode area to transmit high power. A new MWIR PM-PCF will accommodate high power MWIR lasers >10W cw. Also, the proposed MWIR PM-PCF will have high birefringence (~10-3), high extinction ratio (~-30dB) and low propagation losses (<0.2dB/m).
