Abstract

Areté Associates, along with STTR partner Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), are proposing a comprehensive software capability for scene generation, object insertion, and performance modeling for passive and active EO COBRA sensors over the surf zone. The Surf Zone Modeling Tool (SZT) will incorporate several technologies, including: open-source and Areté-designed SZ ocean physics models, an interface with the DIRSIG scene renderer including SZ rendering optimizations developed by RIT, and software plug-ins to other COBRA development tools currently being built by Areté under parallel efforts. The tool will include models of the SZ environment and sourcing functions, COBRA-specific platform, sensor, and target models, and a simulation framework that folds these pieces together to rapidly generate simulated datasets for algorithm training. The tool will also include the capability to insert synthetic objects into previously collected sensor data to add another means for rapidly building up a large training and test database without the complex requirement of accurately modeling scene and clutter geometries.
