Long value chains are among the biggest security issue in manufacturing for Industry 4.0. This is the case for all manufacturing but is especially critical in the military complex. In the USA, regulations trying to manage the situation, such as DFARS 252.204-7012, utilize Information Technology (IT) paradigms that don’t reflect Operation Technology’s (OT) unique circumstances and focus on perimeter security. Our approach will be to inspect potential assaults along the AM supply chain and to evaluate non-destructively printed components. While the focus lies on the security aspect, the methods will be developed under consideration of cost as well as of delivering effective and efficient processes in an easy-to-use interface aiding people at any stage of the AM workflow to fulfill their tasks. The framework and the methods are applicable to small and large area AM techniques. By securing the AM digital thread, this will enable the Air Force to scale and further support the warfighter both at home and abroad (i.e. Arsenals, Military Contractors, and manufacturing facilities on Air Force property that can produce replacement parts immediately for the warfighter).
