Abstract
IN THIS PROJECT WE WILL DEVELOP THE PORTABLE PATIENT RECORD (PPR) USING MAGNETO-OPTICAL (MO) DISC TECHNOLOGY. WE EILL FOCUS ON THE DATA AND INFORMATION RELATED TO AVERAGE CANCER PATIENTS, WHO ARE VERY REPRESENTATIVE OF THE NEED FOR MULTIPLE TREATMENTS AT DIVERSE SITS BY A VARIETY OF PROVIDERS. REPRESENTATIVE PATIENT DATA WILL BE GENERATED, RELEVANT MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE INFORMATION WILL BE EXTRACTED FROM THE CANCERLIT DATABASE AND APPROPRIATE CLINICAL TRIALS DATA WILL BE OBTAINED FROM THE PDQ CANCER TREATMENT DATABASE. ALL WILL BE INTEGRATED ON A PPR STORED ON AN MO DISC. IN PHASE I WE WILL BUILD A PROTOTYPE PPR AND VALIDATE ITS UTILITY BY SIMULATING A MULTI-PROVIDER INTERACTION, USING THE PPR TO PROVIDE DATA/INFORMATION GERMANE TO A TREATMENT DECISION BY ONE PROVIDER, UPDATING THE PPR WITH RESPECT TO THAT TREATMENT, AND THEN USING IT TO PROVIDE DATA TO THE NEXT PROVIDER. IN PHASE II WE WILL REFINE ALL THE IDENTIFIER, STANDARDS, PRIVACY, CONFIDENTIALITY, SECURITY, VOCABULARY AND USER CLASS ISSUES NECESSARY TO ATTAIN PRODUCT COMMERCIALIZATION.
