As the military moves into new global locations, geospatial analysis continues to be a critical part of the mission. Correspondingly, continued price declines in commercially available geospatial and aerial imagery not only provide significant opportunities for tactical advantage in theatre, but also hold the potential for automating day-to-day functions for operational efficiencies and cost reductions (e.g. routine maintenance of base facilities and monitoring of critical infrastructure following natural and man-made events). As part of the proposed effort, NOVI will evaluate the feasibility of applying its convolutional neural network based image processing, object extraction and change detection algorithms to specific Air Force needs, and develop a detailed plan for adapting / enhancing NOVI’s commercial platforms for a prototype-level pilot implementation in a follow-on Phase II effort.
