Abstract

The threat to GPS drives demand for a back-up PNT solution that can operate in the event of denial of service to the GPS satellite signals. The military is dependent on PNT for their warfighting operations and national critical infrastructure is also reliant on GPS for positioning and timing. The proposed GMPS solution will provide PNT services through the DoD C2 network that will allow existing communication satellites to be used as signals of opportunity (SoOP) to provide back-up PNT services. The GMPS PNT Client will be designed for installation on networked, frequency agile, Software Defined Radios, which are already being deployed by the DoD for Electronic Support missions. The proposed solution will support resilient PNT through the Air Force’s existing C2 and network operations by providing services which leverage existing space and ground infrastructure.
