The U.S. military is actively seeking to upgrade the GPS navigation system with clocks that have higher precision and accuracy. Vescent Photonics proposes to improve on their current frequency comb designs to produce a low SWaP-C dual frequency comb system by the end of Phase II that will allow the transfer of time and frequency signals generated from optical atomic clocks over free-space or fiber links. Commercial applications that will benefit from this include gas sensing via dual comb spectroscopy and precision lidar utilizing dual frequency combs.
