Abstract

The modern networked battlefield is a contested environment fought with the use of encryption and digital attacks. As such, heavy advantage is provided to the side with the most robust encryption technologies as well as knowledge of the fundamental limitations of those, and competing technologies. Modern encryption protocols are constructed around a kernel of random numbers. Generation of these random numbers and the theory behind random number generation is the topic addressed in this response. In this effort we will deploy a novel software based solution to true random number generation. This approach will be evaluated and competed against benchmark solutions. Using traditional tests for randomness as well as entropy tests, we will design, model, and implement prototype random number generators.
