Abstract

Current tactical vehicles are designed in a high-paced environment where trade studies to determine optimal materials and manufacturing processes cannot be contained within product development timelines. GS Engineering proposes to develop a process and complimentary tools to facilitate more rapid informed decision making along these lines. The armor support ring for the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) will serve as a test and development case for this process and tools. Phase I efforts will focus on development of the process, synthesis of tools not currently within GS Engineering’s existing toolkit, conceptual design of multiple options, and final design of an optimum concept. Phase I Option efforts will focus on design of non-optimal concepts for comparison and validation of decisions made during the process. Phase II efforts will focus on production of a single prototype unit for follow-on testing by the US Army.
