Abstract

An innovative deep submergence low frequency, broadband transducer forefficient operation is presented. The transducer uses a multiport concept (U.S. Patent 5, 184, 332) which allows back radiation to arrive in phase with the forward radiation and allows broadband depth independent operation. Because the system utilizes Helmholtz resonators, low frequency operation can be achieved. A number of possible configurations are considered as well as a number of possible drive mechanisms. A transducer operating in the 500 to 1000 Hz frequency range is proposed as a scale model for the intended 50 to 100 Hz operation. The scheme of operation allows multiple combinations for an unlimited operating band if desired. The device would be environmentally suitable as an expendable source.
