Abstract

ArchieMD proposes to develop an innovative Augmented Reality (AR)-based telemedicine platform that will support autonomous medical care for multi-year manned lunar and Mars operations. This technology will leverage a catalogue of guided medical procedures developed by the team, to facilitate timely decision-making and medical guidance during potential health emergencies in space, where access and contact to Earth is severely limited. These procedural instructions will be built specifically with consideration for anticipated complications regarding surgery during spaceflight, such as the microgravity environment, anesthesiology in space, anatomical changes due to fluid redistribution, weakened bone strength, etc. Development of the proposed technology will support autonomy and self-reliance during the extended mission, while also maintaining the physical well being and performance capabilities of these irreplaceable space explorers.
