Research Institution
The intent of Phase II is to fabricate an integrated Stirling Individual Pallet Chiller (SIPC) operational prototype to provide chilled bottled water at remote military deployments. The SIPC prototype will be tested to characterize the operational envelope of the cooler and then integrated with a commercial-off-the-shelf insulated box that has been modified specifically to operate with the SIPC cooler. The system will operate off JP-8 or diesel fuels to provide 2.3 RT of cooling capacity while also providing sufficient power for all parasitic loads. It will provide a fuel-to-electric efficiency of at least 20% with a modestly recuperated burner, and up to 25% with a heavily recuperated burner. Overall system COP will be 0.6.
