Abstract
LASERLAND MATH IS A SERIES OF INTERACTIVE LEARNING MODULES FOR STUDENTS IN THE PRIMARY GRADES. THE SERIES WILL PROMOTETHE DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICAL SKILLS, PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITIES AND NUMBER SENSE. PHASE I WILL RESULT IN (1) THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES,(2) THE CREATION OF A "PLATFORM-NEUTRAL" WORKING PROTOTYPE OF A REPRESENTATIVE LEARNING MODULE, (3) A TEST OF THIS MODULE INVOLVING STUDENTS AND TEACHERS, (4) AN EXAMINATION OF THE FEASIBILITY OF PORTING OR CONVERTING THE PROTOTYPE TOTHE CD-ROM AND CD-I PLATFORMS, AND (5) AN ASSESSMENT OF THE TECHNICAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND ECONOMIC ISSUES INVOLVED IN USING INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MATHEMATICS PROGRAM. PHASE II WILL RESULT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENTIRE SERIES COVERING TOPICS COMMONLY INCLUDED IN THE K-3 MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM.
