Abstract
THIS PROJECT IS IN RESPONSE TO BOTH THE IOM REPORT ON THE FUTURE OF PUBLIC HEALTH, AND HEALTHY PEOPLE 2000, AS WELL AS AHCPR'S SPECIFIC INTEREST IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS THAT SUPPORT THE HEALTHY PEOPLE 2000 AGENDA, PARTICULARLY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF 'PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS." WE WILL DEVELOP AND PILOT TEST A STANDARDIZED SURVEY RESEARCH QUESTIONNAIRE FOR TELEPHONE ADMINISTRATION, AND ASSOCIATED METHODOLOGIC PROCEDURES FOR USE NATIONALLY IN LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH JURISDICTIONS. THE DESIGN OF THE INSTRUMENT AND PROCEDURES WILL BE GUIDED BY A POLICY COMMITTEE (COMMITTEE22.1) COMPOSED OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM RELEVANT NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS AND FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL HEALTH AGENCIES. THE RESULTING SURVEY SYSTEM WILL BE CONSISTENT WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF PRIORITY AREA 22 OF HEALTHY PEOPLE 2000, AND WILL SERVE THE PLANNING AND EVALUATION NEEDS OF LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENTS, AS WELL AS THE RESEARCH REQUIREMENTS OF PRIMARY CARE PRACTITIONERS AND RESEARCHERS.
