Abstract
A new infrared transmitting glass will be developed based on fluorophosphate for fabricating large diameter IR and multi-spectral laser windows. Unlike other infrared glasses based on the fluorides, the fluorophosphate glass has excellent chemical durability and glass forming ability. During Phase I, high stability glass will be developed having a minimum of optical path distortion and good infrared transmission. A casting process for making windows will be developed, and a six inch window will be fabricated during the Phase I Option. During Phase II, the casting process will be scaled up and a large window up to 1 meter diameter will be fabricated.
