Global Technology Connection, Inc. (GTC) in collaboration with their academic (Rutgers University) and industrial partners proposes to develop and show methodology for a “Novel High-Volume Fraction and Aligned Short Fiber Composite Fabrication Process”. During Phase I, we will: 1) use a unique process developed by Rutgers to circumvent the challenges of uniformly dispersing and aligning Carbon Fibers (CF) at higher target volume fractions of 30-45%. 2) functionalize the carbon-fiber surface to increase the chemical compatibility between the fiber and the pre-polymer matrix. 3) Investigate multiple types of polymer systems 4) show a cost-effective approach to fabricate high-quality CF-composites. 5) Fabricate several dogbone test samples and demonstrate pertinent mechanical properties. We will develop prototype roadmap for implementation during Phase II. Aggressive Commercialization (Phase III) plans will be pursued using the help of Material OEMs and Vertical Integrators.
