Abstract
FUNGI ARE THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF TREE DISEASES. IN FORESTRY, FUNGAL DISEASE ARE BEST CONTROLLED IN THE NURSERY OR GREENHOUSE, AND BIOCONTROL AGENTS ARE PREFERRED OVER CHEMICAL FUNGICIDES. THE NATURALLY OCCURRING ACTINOMYCETES ARE THE MOST PROMISING BIOCONTROL AGENTS BECAUSE OF THEIR ABILITY TO PRODUCE A WIDE RANGE OF ANTIBIOTICS WITHIN THE THIZOSPHERE. THIS RESEARCH WILL COLLECT FOREST ACTINOMYCETES, SCREEN THEM FOR ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY, PREPARE PRODUCT FORMULATIONS FOR CONIFER SEEDLING STUDIES, AND INITIATE SEEDLING TESTS IN NATURALLY INFECTED FOREST SOILS.
