Abstract
This document describes Innovative Power Solutions (IPS) proposal to provide a detail design and produce prototype hardware for a 75KVA Generator for the Global-Hawk. This generator is to be mounted in the tail cone section of the generator driven fromthe LP spool. This unit is intended to supply electric power for the air vehicle and payload as well as emergency power extracted during wind milling operation of the AE3007H turbofan engine. In addition, Phase II efforts will investigate extractingelectric power during wind milling operation as assist power for in-flight engine restart. The design approach will incorporate the use of a Brushless AC Generator to provide the required electric power. In addition, to provide the required engine start capability, the system design will include a start unit, which incorporates a synchronousmotor controller that, operating in conjunction with the AE3007H FADEC, will provide a controlled torque versus speed profile for the specified conditions by controlling a starter generator mounted on the HP spool driven gearbox. The use of availablewindmill assist to reduce battery drain per start will enhance in-flight restart capability. The start unit will also contain the circuitry required for generator control functions including voltage regulation and fault protection.
