AbstractThe proposed SBIR research targets the development of advanced optical diagnostic instruments for the study of turbomachinery. The Particle Imaging Velocimetry technique is proposed for instantaneous, two-dimensional velocity measurements and flowfield visualization in turbomachinery. The instrument proposed for use in this study will be designed specifically to address the problems associated with studying unsteady transient flowfields in the Compressor Aero Research Facility at Wright Laboratory. This optical-based non-intrusive instrumentation will also serve as a test bed for the further extension of other advanced optical diagnostic techniques to the study of complex turbomachinery flowfields.
