Abstract
THE PROGRESSIVE SCIENCE INSTRUCTION PACKAGE WILL BE A SOFTWARE AND COURSEWARE PACKAGE WHICH WILL TEACH SCIENCE IN GRADES 6-9 TO STUDENTS WHOSE NATIVE LANGUAGE IS NOT ENGLISH. STUDENTS USING THE PACKAGE WILL LEARN SCIENCE MATERIAL IN MICROCOMPUTER-BASED TUTORIAL DIALOGS THAT INCORPORATE INTERACTIVE VIDEO, GRAPHICS, AND MULTIPLE LEVELSOF TEXTUAL RESPONSES AND REMEDIATIONS. THE STUDENTS WILL WORK PAPER-BASED DRILLS, UNIT TESTS, AND SUMMARY TESTS IN CURRICULA TAILORED TO THE THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS AND MANAGEDBY A COMPUTER MANAGEMENT OF LEARNING (CML) PROGRAM. THE CML PROGRAM WILL ASSIST TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS BY INTELLIGENTLY GUIDING THEM IN THE CREATION OF STUDENT CURRICULA, BY MAINTAINING RECORDS OF INDIVIDUAL STUDENT PROGRESS AND ACHIEVEMENT, AND BY PROVIDING STATISTICS TO FACILITATE THE PRODUCTION OF REPORTS.
