Abstract
AUTOMATIC CONTROL DESIGN AND ANALYSIS, MODELING, SIMULATION, AND OPTIMIZATION TASKS CAN BE GREATLY ENHANCED THROUGH INTERACTIVE, COMPUTER-AIDED ENGINEERING (CAE) TOOLS. SUCH TOOLS HAVE BEEN LARGELY UNAVAILABLE IN AEROSPACE, MECHANICAL, PROCESS CONTROL AND VEHICLE DESIGN INDUSTRIES, WHERE LARGE RESOURCES ARE EXPENDED TO DEVELOP SPECIALIZED SOFTWARE WITH CUMBERSOME ARCHITECTURE AND USER SYNTAX. INTEGRATED SYSTEMS, INC. HAS DEVELOPED AN INTERACTIVE COMPUTER AIDED CONTROL SYSTEM DESIGN AND MODELING PACKAGE, CALLED MATRIX(X). MATRIX(X) IS USED BY OVER THIRTY COMPANIES, UNIVERSITIES AND LABORATORIES. PHASE I PROPOSES TO DEVELOP A SECOND GENERATION CONTOL SYSTEM CAE AND EXPERT SYSTEM CONCEPTS. THE SOFTWARE WILL BE BASED ON ANSI 77 FORTRAN AND LISP TO ALLOW WIDESPREAD ENGINEERING USE.
