Research Institution
We propose a comprehensive and practical approach that will yield a complete near real time visual information system for DIV3. We will investigate Level 1 data fusion and Levels 2 and 3 information fusion so as to implement metadata and meta-knowledge structures of mathematical or ontological type, the structure of GIS databases, and the automatic updating and querying of such databases via clicking on a screen to access the networked DB. Some of our key features are: 1) the use of sensor management to assure quality of the Level 1 fused data; 2) the use of a master screen for the virtual battlespace and a supplementary screen where information for the items clicked on the master screen will be displayed so as to not obscure the virtual battlespace; 3) a planning assistant subsystem to aid the commander in planning missions; 4) a review of the literature for metadata and knowledge structures for high level fusion with GIS interaction and comparison with our own approaches that use intuitive belief networks and fuzzy Petri nets for fusing information via metadata at higher levels; and 5) applying computer vision algorithms for detecting changes in images, and developing algorithms for querying for detection.
