Abstract
RAVEN technology weapons vent a significant portion of the propellant gases rearward. Therefore the ammunition must allow the gun gases to leave the chamber at the proper time. This is in complete contrast to conventional weapons where the ammunition provides the breech seal during the entire ballistic cycle. As such, the technologies are incompatible and separate supply logistics must be maintained. The cartridge case concepts work together with the RAVEN weapon to control vent timing which is the most important aspect of RAVEN technology. Further, the cartridge case will be compatible with existing weapons based on conventional ammunition design. As such, the new cartridge case will be used in both venting RAVEN weapons and conventional non-venting weapons.
