Abstract
THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP AN IMMUNOSORBENT DEVICE FOR REMOVAL OF EXCESS PARATHYROID HORMONE (PTH) FROM THE BLOOD OF CHRONIC RENAL-FAILURE PATIENTS. THE PROJECT WILL INVOLVE SYNTHESIS OF A SPECIFIC IMMUNOSORBENT DESIGN OF A HEMOPERFUSION CARTRIDGE AND ANIMALTESTING TO ASSESS DEVICE EFFICACY. A SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME IN PHASE I WILL LEAD TO THE EVALUATION OF THE DEVICE IN HUMAN CLINICAL TRIALS AND EVENTUAL COMMERCIAL UTILIZATION IN THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE.
