Abstract

In order for miniature wireless sensor technology to be useful for applications involving turbine engine and high-temperature wind tunnels, drastic improvements in operational ranges of the necessary electronics assemblies, in terms of both temperature and acceleration, must be achieved. The proposed system development will utilize recent advances in microelectronics fabrication technology to produce a complete multi-channel telemetry system capable of continuous operation over the temperature range of -55°F to +400°F and G-loads up to 100,000 Gs. The inherent properties of the temperature tolerant fabrication technologies additionally will potentially provide for high-reliability, radiation hardness, low-power consumption, and high-frequency operation. Through the development of a modular system with a highly programmable analog data acquisition section as well as configurable transmission characteristics, a cost effective solution will be enabled which is applicable to a wide range of environmental extremes.
