Abstract
THE PROPOSED PROJECT WILL INVESTIGATE THE APPLICATION OF EXPERT SYSTEM TECHNIQUES TO THE FOLLOWING NETWORK MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS: 1) ON-LINE CONTROL AND MONITORING 2) NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS 3) NETWORK SECURITY MONITORING 4) CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT 5) NETWORK CAPACITY MANAGEMENT A DETERMINATION WILL BE MADE OF WHICH APPLICATION CAN BEST BE PROTOTYPED USING THE ART EXPERT SYSTEMS GENERATOR. PHASE II OF THE PROJECT WILL DEVELOP A PROTOTYPE EXPERT SYSTEM FOR THE SELECTED AREA. SUCH EXPERT SYSTEMS HAVE POTENTIAL FOR MANAGING LARGE COMPUTER NETWORKS.
