Abstract
THE FEASABILITY OF CREATING A BRIDGE BETWEEN A MAP COMPUTER NETWORK AND A CAMAC MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL SYSTEM WILL BE INVESTIGATED. THE PROPOSED TECHNIQUE WILL BE TO USE A CAMACAUXILIARY CRATE CONTROLLER CONFORMING TO IEEE STD. 675. THENECESSARY MICROPROCESSOR HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE TO IMPLEMENT THE MEDIUM ACCESS CONTROL LAYER AND THE LOGICAL LINK CONTROLLAYER OF IEEE 802.2 AND 802.4 WILL BE GENERATED AND TESTED BY THE USE OF HARDWARE BREADBOARDS. NETWORK AND TRANSPORT LAYER SOFTWARE WILL BE EVALUATED USING SIMULATION TECHNIQUES. A MICROPROCESSOR SUBSYSTEM, CAPABLE OF PERFORMING THE LATTER FUNCTIONS, WITHIN THE ACC, WILL BE INVESTIGATED. THE OVERALL PRACTICALITY OF THE PROPOSED APPROACH WILL BE EVALUATED BY A DETAILED HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE DESIGN, WHICH WILL ACCOMPANY THE FINAL REPORT.
