Research Institution
This project will develop and demonstrate methods for the repair of Blisk components for advanced fighter engines. Blade damage can require the reconstruction of geometry, however most weld buildup methods available fail to match the base-metal mechanical properties with emphasis on high-cycle fatigue. Keystone will develop blade repair methods using high-quality blade weld reconstruction methods followed by microstructural conversion of the deposited material by localized stir processing. This reconstruction method provides a fine-grained microstructure to the repaired metal, yielding higher fatigue properties than typical weld restoration.
