Abstract
CONVENTIONAL PROCESSING OF POLYCRYSTALLINE MATERIALS THAT HAVE BEEN GROWN USING CVD METHODS IS NOT WELL UNDERSTOOD IN TERMS OF THE SUBSURFACE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE FABRICATION PROCESSING. THE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF THE ZNSE AND THE ZNS, WHEN CVD IS USED, HAS AT LEAST TWO CRYSTAL ORIENTATIONS THAT ARE OF DIFFERENT HARDNESSES AND REACT DIFFERENTLY TO THE FORCES DURING MANUFACTURING. THIS STUDY WILL UTILIZE PAST EXPERIENCE IN THE AREA OF SUB-SURFACE DAMAGE STUDIES TO DETERMINE THE LEVEL OF THE CRACK PROPAGATION IN THE CVD MATERIALS. STUDIES CONDUCTED ON GLASSY AND CRYSTALLINE MATERIALS HAVE REVEALED A GREAT DEAL ABOUT THE NATURE OF THE RESIDUAL DAMAGE IN BRITTLE SOLIDS. THIS EFFORT WILL INCORPORATE THE METHODS USED BY THE PREVIOUS STUDIES TO PROVIDE THE DATA NECESSARY IN DETERMINING THE STRUCTURE AND SUBSTRUCTURES OF ZNSE AND ZNS.
