AbstractA novel fiber optic laser threat warning receiver capable of operation in the eyesafe wavelength band is proposed for use on Naval tactical aircraft. The sensor will provide angular resolution of 3' over a 90' full angle in one axis. In addition, a compact spectrometer will provide wavelength identification with a resolution of 13 nm between 1.2 Jim - 2.1 t m. Characteristics of this fiber-optic based warning receiver include an extremely low profile on an aircraft surface, light weight, durability, and low cost. The Phase I effort will yield a laboratory demonstration that will provide experimental confirmation of this performance. The Phase II effort will result in a threat warning sensor brassboard for field testing and demonstration that meets these specifications and additionally can indicate the threat laser repetition frequency to better than 1%. The Phase II effort will also investigate production issues such as cost, size, and weight.
