Abstract
Flight simulators involving dome projection displays are a critical part of current and future aircrew training systems. Owing to current technology, dome simulators typically resort to a low resolution background with an additional target projector which overlays a higher resolution target on the background image on the dome surface. In order to circumvent these shortcomings, simulators capable of displaying the large amounts of information involved in today's trainers require extremely high resolution and brightness not available with current projection display technology. Recent breakthroughs at Laser Power Corp (LPC) have led to the development of red, green, and blue (RGB) laser technology which could hold the key to a revolution in the projection display arena. A high resolution, full-color, microlaser based projection display is proposed to address super resolution, HDTV requirements for large display applications. Microlaser based projection displays promise high resolution and luminance with the largest color gamut of all competitive technologies in a compact, power efficient, and cost competitive package.
