Abstract

IN Phase I LIT designed and built a prototype Universal Cable Adapter (UCA) system. The prototype UCA system includes Hub and Interface Module (IM) CCAs. The Hub controls and interfaces with the Fiber Optic transceiver and the Interface Modules. The UCA system includes IM for various analog and digital data formats. In Phase II LIT will further develop the UCA concept and design a cable adapter for a specific target application. The cable adapter hardware will undergo qualification testing for thermal, salt fog, EMI/EMC, shock and vibration. The goal is to develop DO-178/DO-254 compliant design that can achieve air worthiness qualification. The cable adapter will be designed for operation from -50C to +80C and -1,500 feet to +50,000 feet altitude. The system will include self diagnostics and LIT will provide failure analysis and Fault Isolation Tree to assist in trouble shooting.
