Abstract

5G networks provide high data rates, ultra-low latency, and wide coverage. Thus, 5G networks are anticipated to be a unifying, scalable framework that interconnects and supports devices from all sort of applications, especially military applications. To achieve this end, 5G networks rely on software defined networking paradigm as well as an IP-based infrastructure that provides flexibility in dynamic mobile wireless setting. Moreover, radio aware routing protocols have been recently used to integrate the wireless links quality into the routing decision, in order to achieve high performance. However, current tactical radios do not support IP capabilities, in particular radio aware routing. A robust security scheme is needed to manage the communication between the 5G network and the tactical military network. To overcome these challenges, we propose the design of MINT– A software-defined integration architecture for 5G-supported military network. The key innovation of MINT is a scalable, flexible, secure, and high performance software-defined network architecture that allows the integration of military networks with 5G/6G networks and secures their communication.
